KINGSTON, ONT. -- No major injuries have been reported after a Kingston Transit bus crashed into a house Saturday morning.
Witnesses tell CTV News the bus was crossing the intersection of Centennial Drive and Kingsdale Avenue/Malabar Drive on a green light when it was hit by a pickup truck after the driver allegedly ran a red light. The bus then crashed into the back of a house on Mohini Place.
Emergency crews confirm that two people inside the home were not hurt.
Homeowner Brian Lee tells CTV News that his wife, Haeley, was in the kitchen making breakfast just minutes before the bus slammed into their home at around 10:30 a.m.
“She heard a large bang, almost like a bomb going off, and she saw the bus come into our home,” Lee said.
Kingston Police tell CTV News that there were three or four passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. One was taken to hospital by ambulance but their injuries were not considered serious. The driver of the truck and the driver of the bus were not injured.
William May was waiting outside to catch the very bus that hit the home when it happened.
“He had the green light and a half-ton truck went through the red light and struck the bus,” he said. “He was going north and he said he couldn’t see it with the sun being bright.”
Neighbours say Centennial Drive is often busy and is a main artery for their neighbourhood. Lee said this is not the first time something like this has happened.
“We've had incidents before like damage to our property, cars running into our fences or coming into our property. This is not the first time. I think the City of Kingston should look into it and do something about it.”
Lee says the house has to be assessed for damage, but he is determined to move forward.
“Psychologically, you know, there’s a little damage but I am a strong-willed person. So, we’ll think about moving forward rather than behind.”
Kingston Transit declined to comment on Saturday.
